New Years Day 2011

New Years Day is always a fun way to start our new year. We have gone from walking as a family for 5 miles in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. to now just doing fun activities with the next generation. My dad started us as a family back in 1980 starting the new year with a 5 mile walk up Euclid Avenue so that we could instill in our bodies HEALTH and to be grateful for our HEALTH and STRENGTH. He always incorporated the pioneers in the walk as well. Can't say that we looked forward to that day of the year, but we have many WONDERFUL memories of those walks. My mom would put a turkey in the oven when we left and by the time we got back it was done and ready to be eaten. You can imagine how long it took us to walk the 5 miles, long enough to cook a 25 pound turkey.

This year we met at Max and Sunny's and did the hill by their house and got a workout. We didn't do 5 miles but we were active. Then we went back and played WII Just Dance 2 and had a blast. EVERYONE did a song and whether you were watching or playing it was fun. It's just fun being with family!!! We love our family traditions.

Some of us in the middle of the hill. Yes, my dad even after surgery on his knee climbed that hill with my mom. The two of them keeping inspiring me. Nothing keeps them down.
Another little inspiration, Major must've ran up and down that hill at least 3 times.
He was running from his shadow. Check out my parents going up another time.
Everyone seemed to love this new game, Just Dance 2. Jaden and Tia playing.
These two were fun to watch. Talk about coordination, I was impressed, they still have the moves.
My parents even played. They found a song that my dad absolutely LOVED.
Julee and Raya
Clay and his daughter Tayvia
My dad and Legend at the table watching everyone.
Sydnee and Major are wishing everyone for us, "Happy 2011 to everyone, we love you"

Nana's Funeral

Remembering OUR NANA

Nana passed away while my dad was in the hospital recovering from his knee replacement surgery. Whata trial my dad was already going through and then to be handed the death of his mom and absolutely NO WAY for him to be able to be there for his family, to help with the arrangements. He has always been the rock of his family and for him not to be able to be there for his sister and brother, he was having a hard time. We have ALWAYS thought of my dad as SUPERMAN only because he always thought of himself as that and always acted like SUPERMAN. This was the first time ever, that my dad wasn't able to do what he wanted and push himself to that limit. It would jeopardize his life. If he went he had the chance to get bloodclots and die. His health wasn't 100% and he needed to focus on getting better. Thank goodness we have the gospel and we know the plan of salvation. Nana was gone and she would want my dad to stay put and take care of himself.
The two of them had such a close relationship. She loved my dad so much and it showed whenever they were together. They loved to laugh and talk story.

My dad loved his mom so much that there wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for her. He would run to her at a drop of a hat, no matter how far.
He always wanted to protect her.
He always had such great appreciation for his mom and all that she did for him growing up. He NEVER forgot what she did for him.
We will always love our memories that she created for us. She will always be our grandma who jump roped, swam and played outside with us.
She would tell us that she was a little girl in an old body.
I know that's where we get our mentality that we don't want to grow up.

Dad finally had his knee replacement surgery. To read all about it, go to http://herbiehorlacherfamily.blogspot.com/2010/11/dads-knee-replacement-surgery.html Tonya captured the whole story nicely.
